Two biomass conversion facilities are available for Kansas producers under the Biomass Crop Assistance Program, said Adrian J. Polansky, state executive director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

Biomass crop assistance helps agriculture and forest land owners and operators with matching payments for the amount paid to collection, harvest, storage and transportation of eligible materials by a qualified biomass conversion facility and supports establishing and producing eligible crops for the conversion to bioenergy through project areas.

The program provides matching payments for the sale and delivery of eligible material to a qualified biomass facility. Payments for eligible materials are $1 for each $1 per dry ton, limited to a maximum $45 per dry ton not to exceed a 2 year payment duration.
To become eligible, a biomass conversion facility must submit an agreement and other documentation to the Farm Service Agency office, 3600 Anderson Ave., Manhattan 66503 for approval.

To obtain a list of eligible materials and agreement, go to www.fsa.usda.gov, then click on “Energy Programs” in the left column, or contact Rod Winkler at (785) 539-3534 with additional questions.

Two area sites are approved as biomass conversion facilities for producers in Kansas counties: one is Prairie Fire BioEnergy Cooperative, 97 W. Highway 4, Healy 67850, phone (620) 398-2370; and the other is Show Me Energy Cooperative, 102 S.W. 58 Highway, Centerview, Mo. 64019-0177, phone (660) 656-3780.
