In December, families will come together for a holiday celebration.

The City of Spring Hill, Johnson County Human Services and the Spring Hill Recreation Center is hosting Hometown Holidays from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec 5. at the Spring Hill Civic Center, 401 N. Madison St.

Stevie Morris, a service manager for Johnson County Human Services, said Spring Hill’s greatest treasure is the people.

“They are caring, considerate and compelling friends and neighbors who care what happens to each other,” Morris said. “Celebrations like Hometown Holidays are opportunities for people to get a taste of what Spring Hill is. People come home for the weekend, and they are reminded how warm the community is.”

The event will provide an opportunity for children to have a picture with Santa Claus and to tell him what they want for Christmas.
There will also be crafts, activities for children, live music and a candy cane hunt. Sarah Ackerman-Hale, a coordinator for the event, said thousands of candy canes will be placed in the area. Children are encouraged to bring their flashlights. Frosty the Snowman will lead the hunt.

Ackerman-Hale said the city is grateful for the community support.

“It’s encouraging to see how this event is growing every year,” she said. “It’s truly a community event.”

The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Some of the other activities include a Nativity scene from Life Spring Church with live animals and entertainment from ensembles.
