Local residents can browse a wide selection of holiday gift items and meet a local author Saturday during an open house at Lucy Lockett’s in Paola.

Local author Chris Bell Rosner and local illustrator Caroline Switzer, who recently published the book “The Deerfield Cats,” will be on hand during the event for a book signing at the business, located at 25 W. Wea St. on the south side of Park Square.

There will be books for sale, as well as many holiday gifts, such as tea sets, teas and new food items. There’s also a new Scottie puppy in the store to greet visitors. Plus, owner Janet Smith already has the store decorated for Christmas.
“The Deerfield Cats” is the first in a series of books written for children and cat lovers. The story revolves around the cats that lived and worked on an old dairy farm near Wichita. North of the dairy farm was a beautiful flower farm called Deerfield.

The first story takes place at the old dairy farm, and the next several books will tell of the cats’ adventures at Deerfield. The stories are true, and the farm and Deerfield are all real places.

The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
