Several local holiday-loving homeowners will be inviting strangers into their houses for several hours this weekend as part of the 12th annual Paola Christmas Homes Tour. This year’s tour will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features five homes, a church and a city building.

Tickets cost $10 and are available at Paola Floral & Gifts, Rockers Pharmacy, Simply You Salon and Boutique and the Paola Chamber of Commerce. They can also be purchased at any one of the following tour stops on the day of the tour except at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Sites on the tour will be:

Mike and Christine Hursey, Casa Somerset Vineyard, 16315 W. 287th St.: This is the home of an authentic Italian villa, which the Hurseys moved into last summer.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 28750 N. Hospital Dr.: The church was finished in 1982 and services two congregations.

Jeff and Shelli Contini, 21773 Burr Oaks Circle: This is the center home on a cul-de-sac overlooking Lake Miola. It was completed in 2006. The home’s large theater room will be playing a Christmas movie for visitors to enjoy.

Vickie and Paul Scruggs, 29580 Lone Star Rd.: The 20-year-old barn-shaped home is on a 16-acre property called RunAmok Acres. The Scruggs family moved to Paola from Leawood in 2005 after judging a barbecue contest at Paola’s annual Roots Festival.

Steve and Brenda Wrischnik, 508 E. Kaskaskia: This house is more than 120 years old and has been slowly restored by the Wrischniks during the past decade.

Verlin and Shelly Snouffer, 301 E. Peoria: This home is also about 100 years old. The Snouffers get into the holiday spirit by displaying up to five Christmas trees each year.

Paolans can also make a stop at the Paola Community Center at 905 E. Wea, originally built in 1916. The building will be decorated specifically for the tour and a light lunch will be provided.
