1925-2009 Mildred Marie Teagarden Lemon, 84, Parker, died Dec. 19, 2009, at Miami County Medical Center in Paola. She was born July 5, 1925, on a farm south and west of La Cygne and was the older child of Margaret Elizabeth Payne Teagarden and Ray Issac Teagarden. She was a lifelong resident of Parker. She graduated from Fort Scott Junior College in 1972, completed a bachelor of science degree from Pittsburg State University in 1974, and earned a master’s degree in elementary education in 1979. She was united in marriage to Dale Delton Lemon on June 16, 1945, in Ithaca, New York, where he was attending Cornell University. They became the parents of three sons. She started her teaching career at a one room school, Priestly, east of La Cygne. She took an extended leave of absence to raise three sons and then returned to the workforce to work at schools in Fairfield (Turon) and Claflin, Kan., and she served 17 years as a librarian in the Garnett school system. After retiring from full-time employment, she spent several years doing substitute teaching; she also was at various times the church pianist in Garnett, Mound City and Paola United Methodist churches retiring from the Paola church in 2009. Outside of her family, her passion was music. She was also an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making quilts, canvas weaving, crocheting and anything to keep her hands busy. She was a member of the Paola United Methodist Church, the Parker Eastern Star, played in the hand bell choir in Beagle and was a former member of the Osawatomie Frontier Twirlers Square Dance Club. She spent all of her life very involved with church, music and education. Her involvement with music was well known throughout the community. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dale of 64 years and one brother. Carl Teagarden. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Gary Lemon of Greencastle, Ind., Larry Lemon of Conway, Ark., and Ray Lemon of Paola; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main St., Osawatomie, KS 66064, (913) 755-2114. Services will be held at Paola United Methodist Church, 209 S. Silver St., at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 30 followed by burial in the Cadmus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Paola United Methodist Church or the donor’s favorite charity.
