Motorcycles head out from the Paola VFW for a ride for Shifting Gears for Regan, passing her banner on the way out Saturday morning, June 22. The event raised money for teen suicide prevention.

The Shifting Gears for Regan Charity Ride & Awareness Festivity took place Saturday, June 22.

Bikers headed out of the Paola VFW Post 3712 in the morning and made several stops, including The Salt Mine in Baldwin City, Dirty Dog’s in Eudora, Boxcar’s in Edgerton and The Bowery in Spring Hill.

The Awareness Festivity took place from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Bowery. The event featured food, cash bar, auctions and music.

BJ Thomas and her family started Shifting Gears in June 2018 to honor her daughter Regan Johnson, who committed suicide in December 2017. Shifting Gears is focused on raising awareness of teen suicide prevention and helping families navigate life after the sudden loss of their child to suicide.
