The Duke Mason Band is back by popular demand at Louisburg's July 4th Freedom Fest celebration at Lewis-Young Park.

LOUISBURG – Fireworks, music and other activities await attendees of Louisburg's July Fourth celebration: Freedom Fest.

The celebration begins at 6 p.m. at Lewis-Young Park, 26600 Jingo Road, northeast of Louisburg.

The big fireworks show, produced by the Louisburg Fire Department, will begin at dark, according to a news release. Local Boy Scouts Troop 101 will collect a free-will donation at the gate that is used to help defray the cost of the fireworks.

The Duke Mason Band is back by popular demand, organizers said. Duke and his band play a wide range of toe-tapping music from country, rock and roll, gospel and rockabilly. His musical style is often compared to Elvis Presley, according to the release.

New this year will be the Dunk the Pastor - Dunk the Principal dunk tank.

Area pastors plus principals Jeremy Holloway and Cindy Apple will man the tank. Area residents can purchase three throws for $1. Proceeds will go to the local Agape Food Pantry.

Papa Scott's Street Eats food truck will start serving at 6 p.m.

There will be three different inflatables for the kids, and the Louisburg Lions Club will be giving away a girls and boys bike.

Several area businesses, churches and organizations will have booths set up, many offering games or giveaways.

Those gathered will be able to sign up for door prizes to be given away throughout the evening.

If threatening weather is forecast, a decision will be made by noon July 3 if organizers decide to cancel the event, according a city news release.
