LOUISBURG, Kan. Joyce Niebrugge, age 75, of Louisburg, passed away Feb. 5, 2019, at her home, with her family by her side.

Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at First Christian Church, 602 N. First Street, Louisburg, KS 66053.

A visitation was at the same location from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2019.

Burial will be at Louisburg Cemetery.

Joyce Ann Gabel was born Dec. 24, 1943, to Mary (Pomatto) and Raymond Gabel in Mulberry, Kansas, at the home of her maternal grandparents, John and Manila Pomatto.

She attended schools in Arcadia, Kansas, and was a 1961 graduate of Arcadia High School and named salutatorian of her class.

She was a 1965 graduate of Kansas State College (now Pittsburg State University) with a Bachelor of Science degree, in business education.

She was united in marriage to Karl Alan Niebrugge, of Baldwin City, Kansas, on Aug. 14, 1965, at the Arcadia Christian Church. They became the parents of Christian Karl and Heather Rae.

She taught at Richmond, Kansas (now Central Heights) and Shawnee Mission Kansas South. She also substituted in USD 416, Louisburg.

She was office manager of the Louisburg Herald from 1986-1996.

She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 30 years and served on the Louisburg Senior Citizens Board of Directors.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, in Louisburg for more than 45 years, where she served as Sunday school teacher, pianist, director of vacation Bible school, nursery attendant, and editor and publisher of the church newsletter for more than 30 years.

Survivors include: her husband, of 53 years, Alan, of the home; son, Chris and his wife, Jill, of Louisburg; a daughter, Heather Ruoff and her husband, Chad, of Lees Summit, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jack Niebrugge, of Evansville, Indiana, Anna Niebrugge, of Louisburg, and Cade, Carson and Cruz Ruoff, of Lees Summit; other relatives; and many special friends including Debbie Landau, of Louisburg and Kate Callil-Roberts, of Melbourne, Australia.
