Wright places in four events at state track meet

LOUISBURG — Few track and field athletes accomplish what Lady Cat Delaney Wright did this season.

Wright not only qualified for state in four events, she won medals in every event at the Class 4A state track and field meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita on May 24-26.

She is also just a freshman.

Wright set personal records, won three events in the Louisburg Invitational to lead the Lady Cats to the team title and broke a school record to win a regional title in the triple jump.

Wright was named the Tri-County Spotlight Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year.

She medaled in four events at state for the Louisburg Lady Cats. Wright placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.74.

Wright teamed up with Rain Pugh, Sydni Keagle, and Carlee Gassman to place fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:12.

She won a state medal in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh in 27.07. Wright was eighth in the long jump with a leap of 15-10.5.

Wright qualified for the state track and field meet with four top-four finishes in the Class 4A regional at Panther Stadium on May 17, including a pair of gold-medal performances.

Both of the regional event titles broke Louisburg Lady Cat school records.

She ran a time of 59.99 seconds to set a new school record on her way to taking gold in the 400 dash. Wright also won the long jump with a new school record of 17-11, breaking a mark set in 1995.

Wright placed second in the 200 and also ran on the Lady Cats runner-up 4x400-meter relay team.

Things started lining up for Wright’s state quest at the Frontier League meet in Paola on May 10.

Wright had a leap of 17-4 for first place in the long jump. She placed third in the 200 and fourth in the 400.

Louisburg was third in the 4x400.

The Lady Cat freshman also loves home.

She dominated at the Louisburg Invitational as the Lady Cats captured the team title April 18.

The Louisburg girls posted 144 points for first place in the meet. Wright set the tone, winning three events at the Louisburg Invitational.

Wright won the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and triple jump.
