KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Alex Johnson and Tyson Cheatham each hit a pair of home runs to lead the Spring Hill baseball team to a sweep against Piper on the road.

Johnson hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning as the Broncos won the opener 15-14 on Tuesday, April 16.

Cheatham, who has signed with Wichita State, had RBIs in four different innings in a 13-3 run-rule victory in the second game.

The Broncos, 10-3, have won four straight games and nine of their last 10.

Johnson was 4-for-5 in the first game against Piper, driving home six runs with four runs scored.

Cheatham had five hits in the game. He doubled and scored three runs.

Caleb Pahl doubled, singled twice, drove in one run and scored three runs. Zade Barker singled, doubled and scored.

Jordan Smith had two base hits and drove in two runs. Jake Scoma singled, drove home two runs and scored.

Colby Stewart had two hits, drove in one run and scored. Corbyn Meyers had two hits and scored.

Barrett Gardner singled twice, drove in one run and scored. Logan Greenhalgh singled and scored.

Garrin Jackson started the game, allowing nine runs on nine hits in five innings. Brady Bogart, Greenhalgh and Johnson pitched in relief.

Cheatham was 3-for-3 in the second game, driving home seven runs.

Meyers singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Barker doubled, drove in one run and scored three runs.

Stewart had two base hits, drove in two runs and scored twice. Smith walked, singled and scored two runs.

Scoma singled and drove in one run. Johnson singled and scored. Greenhalgh scored.

Barker and Stewart each stole two bases.

Johnson started the game, allowing one base hit over three scoreless innings.

Barker pitched the final two innings in relief and got the win. He allowed three runs on three base hits.

Spring Hill scored nine runs in the first four innings against Paola at home Monday, April 15, defeating the Panthers 13-1.

Cheatham doubled and homered for the Broncos. He drove in one run with four runs scored. Johnson homered, drove in three runs and scored.

Pahl tripled, drove in one run and scored. Gardner doubled and scored.

Meyers singled, drove in one run and scored. Barker drove in one run and scored. Stewart and Smith singled and scored.

Gardner pitched the complete game, allowing one run on two base hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

Garret Trimmer tripled and scored for Paola. Mason Hunter singled and drove in one run.

Michael Daggett started for Paola and took the loss. He allowed nine runs on six hits in three innings.

Fletcher Aude and Hunter pitched in relief.

Spring Hill split with Eudora on the road April 9.

The Broncos won the first game 17-5, scoring runs in six of the seven innings.

Spring Hill lost a pitcher’s duel in the second game, 4-2.

Meyers doubled, singled twice, drove in two runs and scored in the opener. Stewart had three hits, drove in two runs and scored three runs.

Cheatham tripled, drove in one run and had four runs scored. Smith singled, walked twice, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Pahl singled, doubled, drove in one run and scored twice. Barker singled, walked twice, drove in two runs and scored twice. Johnson doubled and scored.

Gardner allowed four runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out nine and walked one.

Seth Hays pitched two innings in relief, giving up one run on three hits.

Spring Hill lost the second game 4-2.

Stewart singled, doubled and drove in one run. Cheatham singled, doubled and scored.

Johnson singled and scored. Meyers singled.

Johnson started the game, working into the sixth inning. Greenhalgh pitched in relief.
