Weitze throws one-hit shutout for Lady Panthers

LOUISBURG — Kierstan Weitze allowed just one run on five hits as the Paola Lady Panthers ended the regular season with a doubleheader sweep against Louisburg at Lewis-Young Park.

Weitze pitched a one-hit shutout in a 15-0 victory in the opener Thursday, May 9. She allowed one run on four hits as Paola completed the sweep with a 16-1 win in the second game.

The Paola Lady Panthers celebrated senior night between games of a doubleheader at home against Ottawa on Monday, May 6.

Seniors recognized were Grace Lopez, Hannah Menefee, Dailey Mitchell, Maggi Morgan and Halle Schindler.

Paola took two tough losses against Ottawa, falling 1-0 in the opener and 7-4 in the second game.

Menefee and Schindler homered in the first game against Louisburg.

Menefee was 3-for-3. She drove in three runs and scored twice. Schindler was 2-2, driving in four runs with two runs scored.

Weitze was 3-for-3, driving home one run. She scored three runs. Weitze threw a one-hitter, striking out six.

Kate Ediger doubled, singled, drove in three runs and scored. Mitchell had two base hits, drove in one run and scored twice.

Lexi Smail had two hits and scored two runs. Aubrey Weatherbie singled, drove in a run and scored. Madison Bryant singled and scored. Morgan singled and scored.

Paola stole eight bases in the game. Mitchell had three stolen bases. Weitze swiped two bases.

Jenna Collier and Schindler homered in the second game.

Cullor singled, homered, drove in two runs and scored twice. Schindler singled, clubbed two home runs, drove in six runs and scored three runs.

Lopez had four base hits, including a double. She drove home two runs and scored. Bryant singled twice, doubled and scored two runs.

Weatherbie had three hits, drove in one run and scored. Morgan had two hits, drove in one run and scored twice. Mitchell had two hits, drove home one run and scored twice.

Weitze had two hits and scored two runs. She allowed one run on four hits. She fanned five.

Mitchell stole two bases. Collier and Lopez each stole a base.

Paola lost to Ottawa 1-0 in a tough loss in the opener on senior night.

Menefee, Morgan and Weatherbie doubled. Weitze, Mitchell and Ediger singled. Paola had six hits. The Lady Panthers stranded 10 runners on base.

Ottawa scored one run on six hits. The Ottawa Cyclones had a double and two triples.

Weitze allowed one run on six hits. She struck out eight.

Weitze tripled in the second game. She was 3-for-4 and scored one run.

Schindler doubled and drove in one run. Weatherbie doubled. Lopez singled and drove in one run. Morgan walked, singled and scored.

Menefee had two base hits. Collier and Bryant singled. Mitchell scored.

Paola had its chances with 11 hits in the game. The Lady Panthers left 10 runners on base.

The Lady Panthers stole six bases. Mitchell had two steals.

Weitze allowed seven runs on 13 hits. She struck out seven.
