PAOLA – As Kirk Davis stands at the podium inside Lakemary Center’s Founders’ Fieldhouse, tears begin to well in his eyes.Banners hanging from the wall next to him feature the names of founders who were instrumental in establishing Lakemary Center, a school for children with developmental disabilities, in 1969.Seated in front of him is a crowd of colleagues, donors, community representatives, family members and Lakemary alumni.And just outside the doors is a group of staff members ready to give tours of the new psychiatric residential treatment facility named in his honor.“It’s so humbling that I can hardly describe it,” Davis says.The Sept.


PAOLA – Janna Renner’s quilting skills have grown and evolved ever since she first taught herself to crochet and sew as an 18-year-old more than 50 years ago.At that time, Renner was pregnant with her daughter, and she was reading books to teach herself how to make her own baby clothes.“I was doing a lot of things wrong,” Renner said.

SPRING HILL — The annual Spring Hill Fall Festival is set to take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept.

A series of programs focused on living in a rural area is being sponsored by K-State Research and Extension – Marais des Cygnes District.The series, which takes place every third Tuesday September through December, will address topics relevant to longtime landowners and new residents.The first program was Sept.

PAOLA – Waste Management is set to deliver a free 95-gallon trash cart and 65-gallon recycling cart to every household in Paola that doesn’t already have them as part of a new initiative.Postcards have been sent to Paola residents notifying them about the change and explaining that use of the carts is required for collection.“Waste Management is making this change to make your curbside collection services more efficient, keeping safety as a top priority,” the postcards state.District Manager Bryce Smith said cart deliveries will start the week of Sept.
