
Students make hygiene kits as service project
PAOLA – Uprooted families and people in need across the globe will receive 150 hygiene kits thanks to the work of a group of Paola Middle School students who decided to take on the service project.

PAOLA – Sunflower Elementary students traded their backpacks and school buses for helmets and bicycles during an all-school bike ride to wrap up the school year Tuesday, May 20.

PAOLA – There was much to celebrate at the Miami County Campus of Fort Scott Community College as a group of students were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, and local graduates were honored during a Celebration of Success.

OVERLAND PARK – Margo Todd, Miles Panky, Jolee Castro, Avery Kobel, Lily Bunker and two relay teams struck gold to lead the Spring Hill Lady Broncos to first place in the Class 4A regional track and field meet.

The Miami County Medical Center Auxiliary is prepared to award at least two $1,000 scholarships to healthcare students this summer.

The monthly meeting of the Progressive 4-H Club was held at 6 p.m. May 18 at the Miami County Fairgrounds show arena.

One of the casualties during the conflict over slavery in Kansas Territory during Bleeding Kansas was the ability to have a reasonable, civil discussion over issues without fomenting an angry exchange between individuals that often led to violence.
