LOUISBURG – A former employee of Timbercreek Bar & Grill in Louisburg is being investigated for reportedly manipulating receipts and stealing credit card information from customers. The Louisburg Police Department is asking anyone who visited the restaurant between the dates of July 31 and Aug.

Grady Atwater John Brown was born to Owen Brown and Ruth Mills Brown on May 9, 1800, in Torrington, Connecticut, where he lived until Owen Brown moved his family to Hudson, Ohio, in 1805. Ruth Mills Brown died when John Brown was 8 years old, but she had a lasting impact on his life.

PAOLA - Paola High School senior Marlee Bell has joined the staff of The Miami County Republic for a semester internship. Marlee was paired with the Republic through an internship program at the high school supervised by Jenni Walterman, IPS and real world learning coordinator.

PAOLA – Drivers will no longer have to navigate construction on Old Kansas City Road south of Paola, as the extensive improvement project is complete. The rehabilitation project stretched from just south of Paola to U.S.
Karen Ann Myers, age 73, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at her home. Funeral service were held on Monday, August 26, 2024. Karen was born on March 21, 1951, in Houston, Texas. She was the oldest child of Vernon and Melba (Edmonson) Blough. Karen was raised in Overland Park, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School with the class of 1969. She met her future husband, James Myers, while attending church at the age of eleven. They were united in marriage in 1971; in June 2021 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Karen and Jim moved to Louisburg in 1974, where they built a home, a family, and community. She was a very talented artist who loved to craft and draw. She loved fishing and playing canasta and was known to be the best in her family at both. Karen was also a tremendous cook. Whenever someone was planning to visit, they always asked, “Is your mom cooking?”. Karen was a fierce mother, but not just to her two sons. She always stepped up to help those in need, and her protection, dedication, and compassion extended beyond her own household. She wore her caring nature on her sleeve, and she welcomed all who needed someone in their corner; whether it be stray animals or a knot-headed wrestler. Those who knew Karen also understood that her sacrifices did not make her a pushover. She protected and corrected those she loved with a fire that demanded respect. She may have only stood 4’10”, but everyone looked up to her. Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Myers, and parents, Vernon and Melba Blough. She is survived by her two sons, Chris Myers and Jesse (Kalena) Myers; two grandchildren, Caleb and Ranan; sister, Donna (Dale) Wallace; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Garret Delson Brumley, 56, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on July 14, 2024, after a driver crashed into his vehicle. Garret was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 13, 1967, to Gary and Glenna (Cherry) Brumley of Louisburg, Kansas. He graduated from Louisburg High School in 1985 and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Missouri- Kansas City in 1989. On June 3, 1989, Garret married the love of his life, Juneitta Kolkmeyer, at St. Luke Evangelical Free Church in Wellington, Missouri. They shared a deep and abiding love and recently celebrated their 35th anniversary. They made their home in Lee’s Summit, raised two children, Eric and Kayla, and were members of Abundant Life Church. Garret served as the Director of Software Engineering supporting ExamOne for Quest Diagnostics. He was successful in numerous Information Technology leadership roles throughout his 38 years of service with the company, several of which were spent with SBSI (1986-1998) and LabOne (1998-2005) before Quest acquired them. Although his knowledge and work ethic were exemplary, nothing was stronger than the empathy, kindness, and compassion he showed to those around him. Garret’s life was anchored in his love for God, his family, and his friends. As such, he was passionate about life in everything he did. He was an inspiring role model, selfless leader, empathetic friend, encouraging coach, friendly neighbor, and the ultimate epitome of a loving and compassionate family man. Garret proudly supported his kids throughout all their interests in life whether it be coaching their teams, never missing a game or performance, or cheering on their college teams with them. Garret’s unconditional love for his family reflected the way God loves His children. The way Garret lived for God and his Christlikeness were an incredible influence on his family and those around him. Garret was adventurous.
