The Citizen of the Year award was presented to Derek Henness, who is a member of the Osawatomie tourism committee and secretary of the Osawatomie PRIDE program.
OSAWATOMIE — The Cornerstone was filled with community members and business owners excited about the future during the Osawatomie Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner Nov. 14.
Chamber Director Kari Bradley said there are exciting things taking place throughout Osawatomie, including plans to create pathways connecting the Flint Hills Trail Mile Zero trailhead to the downtown district.
“We need to connect our history to our future,” Bradley said. “We’re doing big things.”
The Business of the Year award was presented to Jeff and Sarah Dorsett of Freedom’s FrontTire Bicycle Repair/Sales. The business is the brainchild behind all of the colorful refurbished bicycles seen recently throughout Osawatomie.
Jeff is also heavily involved with the city’s tourism committee and trail commission and has been a big proponent of the Flint Hills Trail.

After enjoying a dinner provided by Oz Creek Kitchen, the guests at each table teamed up to compete in a trivia challenge presented by Brother’s Brew Trivia.
