OSAWATOMIE – Brent Hurt was a fresh-faced teenager from Osawatomie when he started his first real job in May of 1980. “I pushed him out the door when he was 17 and said, ‘get a job,’” said Brent’s mother, Julia Hurt.
Miami County commissioners have decided to go revenue neutral in the proposed 2025 budget. Revenue neutral means the county’s mill levy would be lowered to the rate in which the county would collect the same amount of property tax revenue as the previous year, despite an increase in assessed valuation of nearly five percent.
The results of the Tuesday, Aug. 6, primary election were not available at press time, but they are posted on the Republic’s website at republic- online.com.
WICHITA – Retired Paola High School music educator Jim Fuchs of Paola received the Outstanding Contributor Award at the annual convention of the Kansas Bandmasters Association. The 51st annual summer convention took place July 10-13 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Wichita.

OSAWATOMIE – The seventh annual Serving Our Students (S.O.S.) event sponsored by the Osawatomie Rotary Club will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug.
OSAWATOMIE – Osawatomie has established a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID) to encourage development of the planned Fifth Street Terrace Subdivision. RHID is a program designed to aid developers in building housing within communities by assisting in the financing of public infrastructure improvements.
PAOLA – The 2024-2025 officers recently were installed for American Legion Post 156 in Paola. The installation was officiated by incoming District Commander Anthony Pantoja.

PAOLA – John Allen and Jack Joeckel had quite a battle for first place in the saddle bronc riding competition at the Miami County Fair Rodeo. Allen turned in a score of 78, defeating Joeckel by one point for the title.
