WICHITA – Retired Paola High School music educator Jim Fuchs of Paola received the Outstanding Contributor Award at the annual convention of the Kansas Bandmasters Association. The 51st annual summer convention took place July 10-13 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Wichita.

PAOLA – Kathy Peckman has stepped down from her Paola City Council Ward 3 seat due to health issues, and eligible residents interested in filling the seat are encouraged to submit a letter of interest.

OSAWATOMIE – The seventh annual Serving Our Students (S.O.S.) event sponsored by the Osawatomie Rotary Club will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug.

OSAWATOMIE – Osawatomie has established a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID) to encourage development of the planned Fifth Street Terrace Subdivision. RHID is a program designed to aid developers in building housing within communities by assisting in the financing of public infrastructure improvements.

PAOLA – The 2024-2025 officers recently were installed for American Legion Post 156 in Paola. The installation was officiated by incoming District Commander Anthony Pantoja.

Members of Chapter DQ, P.E.O. recently honored two of the organization’s endowed scholarship winners.

PAOLA – John Allen and Jack Joeckel had quite a battle for first place in the saddle bronc riding competition at the Miami County Fair Rodeo. Allen turned in a score of 78, defeating Joeckel by one point for the title.
