Maxine Crowell, 86, of Beagle, Kansas, passed away August 13, 2024 after a short hospice stay in her own home. “Mac” as she was called by close family, was born October 18, 1937, near Gainesville, Ozark County, Missouri to John Thomas Chisam and Edgie Mae Chisam (née Smith). She attended rural schools and churches in the Gainesville area, walking to both no matter the weather. Maxine was one of nine (9) children of John and Edgie. Maxine is survived by her daughter Lori (Tim) Catlin of Ottawa, Kansas; her daughter Lisa (John) Farley of Osawatomie, Kansas; her grandchildren Rylee Catlin, Emma Catlin, Ellie Catlin, Lily Catlin, Sam Farley, Jack Farley, and Annie Farley; her brother, Gene (Linda) Chisam of Gainesville, Missouri; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and other family throughout Kansas and Missouri. Graveside was August 15, 2024 at Beagle Cemetery. Memorials are to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital and may be sent c/o Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home P.O. Box 430 Osawatomie, KS 66064.
November 16,1928 - August 3,2024 Ned Lynn Kelsey, aged 95, passed away peacefully August 3, 2024 at his home in Paola, Kansas surrounded by his family. Services took place at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola. Burial was at St. Boniface Cemetery in Scipio. Ned was born on November 16,1928 in Greeley, Kansas and grew up on a farm there with his parents and five siblings. After graduating from Greeley High School, Ned served in the Air Force in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska for three years. When he returned, he worked in the Oklahoma oil fields. In 1950, Ned married Theresa Marie Mersman. Together they raised six children, moving frequently as he moved up the rank in the oil drilling business. He shared his love of sports playing baseball with his kids after a long day at work. In 1966 the Kelseys moved to Paola, Kansas. Ned was head of maintenance at Lakemary Center. He enjoyed friendships and life-experiences with the kids with disabilities. After getting a degree in refrigeration and appliance repair Ned enjoyed his own appliance repair business after retirement from Lakemary. Nearly everyone in Paola and the surrounding communities know of his excellent and friendly service. Ned still remembered peoples names, homes and appliances as he ran into them around town. He was known to take repair calls as far away as Louisiana, Arizona and California. It wasn’t uncommon for one of his kids to hold the phone in the freezer and say,” Dad, it’s making this noise.” He would diagnose the problem, order the part and tell them how to proceed with the repair. Later, Ned and Theresa returned to their country roots with a home at Sugar Valley Lake. It was a thrill teaching the grandkids about nature and wildlife and many of their grandchildren caught their first fish from the dock there and enjoyed “building stuff” with Grandpa in his workshop. Francis “Diane” Husted, 81, of Paola, Kansas unexpectedly passed away on August 9, 2024, at her home. She was born on October 7, 1942 to Franklin and LaVonia (Thornton) Damron in Oklahoma City, OK. Diane was one of four children.
KELLERMAN Zechariah Taylor Wood Kellerman, age 31, of Centerville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024. He was born on January 14, 1993 in Bellingham, Washington the son of Janet Sue Brownback.
LORRAINE CATHERINE HEITERT-CHANDLEE Lorraine Catherine Heitert- Chandlee, who grew up listening to FDR’s fireside chats, witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Vietnam War, Neil Armstrong’s moon walk, and the first personal computer, passed on July 27, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas. She was 94 years old.
Jack Eastman, 92, gently passed on July 26 at his long time residence in Paola. He was surrounded by family at the time. He left behind 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 18 greatgrandchildren and 8 greatgreat- grandchildren.
Ned L. Kelsey, age 95 of Paola, passed away Aug. 3. Rosary will be Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. with the visitation following at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Aug. 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
