OSAWATOMIE, Kan. Charles William Crum, 87 of Osawatomie, passed away June 7, 2019, at his home in Osawatomie.
Charles was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Lenapah, Oklahoma. He was the third of six children born to James Ira and Marth Alberta (Shufdlt) Crum.
He grew up and attended high school in Lenapah.
After high school, Charles was employed in various oil fields in Kansas and Kentucky. Throughout his life Charles has several interesting careers.
In addition to raising bird dogs, poultry, and rabbits, he was a race car mechanic.
Later Charles drove semi-trucks professionally and eventually started his own successful, OTR trucking business, Crum Trucking Inc.
Charles first marriage was to Colleen Billups in 1950. Together they had six children. Ira Dwayne, Gary Lee, Barry Lee, Diana Lynn, Martha Pearl and Brenda Kay. The family made their home in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Charles later married Sue Ann (Sutton) McDowell on Oct. 4, 1980. He gained five step children. Steve, Alan, Starla, Misty and Ronnie. The family made their home in Osawatomie.
He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends, dancing and having a good time. Charles and Sue enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and spend a lot of time in Marco Island, Florida.
Charles was a member of the Osawatomie Elk Lodge #921 and Loyal Order of Moose, Hutchinson. He also proudly served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie.
Charles was preceded in death by: his parents; sons, Ira Dwayne, Gary and Barry; daughter, Brenda Kay; a brother, Larry Crum; and sisters, Virginia Crum, Irene Cole, Charlotte Adams and Carolyn Jones.
Survivors include: his wife, Sue Ann, of 38 years; a sister, Scottie Kerns, of Paola; daughters, Diana McLean, of Nowata, Oklahoma and Martha Terry (Bob), of S. Coffeyville, Oklahoma; five step-children, Steve McDowell (Betty), of Spring Hill, Alan McDowell (Rita), of Parker, Kansas, Starla Hughes (Michael), of LaGrange Park, Illinois, Misty Kitchen (Randy), of Osawatomie, and Ronnie McDowell (Theresa), of Hendersonville, Tennennesse; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren other family and friends.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday June 10, 2019.
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday June 11, 2019, all at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.
Burial: Osawatomie Cemetery.
